Korçë (in pictures)

Last weekend's visit to Korçë to visit a group 14 volunteer was a nice break from PST.  Laurie was a perfect hostess and adventure was definitely involved.  Perhaps the best part was getting to see how sweet life is post-training.

I won't write about it, but will let the pictures do the talking.

This is a view of Qafë Thanë, the Macedonian border town we almost accidentally visited via cab.

Jamie was a great travel buddy

famous statue of an Albanian soldier

The first Albanian-language school in Albania opened in Korçë in the late 19th century.  Various invaders did their best to kill the language, but to no avail.  Ironically, English may be the most significant threat yet.

This famous Albanian-American pioneered photography techniques in the early 20th century.

I wonder if this was modeled after a real guy.

This ugly communist-era building was once a beautiful Orthodox church.  The inside has a lot of gorgeous icons though.  We got an awesome private tour.  Thanks Kristi!
